LRT Done Right is a grassroots citizen group that believes mass transit is important for a vital metropolitan region and is dedicated to ensuring that Southwest Light Rail Transit is “done right.”
LRT Done Right advocates southwest light rail transit (SWLRT) design excellence that takes into consideration environmental impact, livable communities, financial feasibility and safety concerns. LRT Done Right does NOT support co-location of freight rail and LRT on the Kenilworth Greenway including a shallow tunnel proposed by the Metropolitan Council. The proposed length of the shallow tunnel and bridge over the lagoon constitutes co-location at grade.
The unresolved issue of freight rail on the Kenilworth Greenway has led to major environmental, community, safety and financial feasibility concerns. Due to safety and environmental concerns as well as the required destruction of homes, LRT Done Right does not agree with the re-location of freight rail to St. Louis Park under the current option provided by the Metropolitan Council July 17 and 18, 2013.
